Many people like Macros in Lisp.
Macros in languages provide a kind of Meta-Programming capability.
If you’ve used macros in World of Warcraft,
you can also imagine what “meta-game” means here:
it focuses not on the game itself,
but on “the essence of the game” derived from the game.
Today’s 《Talking about <On 996>》 is actually a methodology article I wanted to write,
or as I prefer to call it: a Meta article.
Historical Process
Recently the github/996icu project led to a series of events,
in my view basically eating it like a human-blood steamed bun with relish.
In a large-scale social event,
the most fun is watching different social roles express their views on the event itself.
And basically “seat decides head” or “you’ll become the person you like” — these reasonings don’t change.
Every time at moments like this I think of what Xiao Min wrote:
The night of July 14, 1789 when Parisians captured the Bastille,
when Louis XVI heard the news he panicked and asked:
“Is this a rebellion?”His courtier Duke of Liancourt immediately answered:
“No, Your Majesty, this is a revolution.”
Society is composed of humans,
so this whole sometimes shows strange characteristics not possessed by single individuals,
further undergoing organizational evolution and repair.
Ultimately looking back,
one can’t help but sigh like Senior Jiang:
personal struggle is important,
but the historical process must also be considered.
Speech Management
I actually quite like reading some gossip articles.
(Like recommending a blogger called “Luo Yansu,”
his long articles all check quite a bit of background knowledge)
Ishihara Satomi is often praised in articles for “facial expression management.”
Similarly, “speech management” is a quality capitalists are heavily watched for.
Watching various capitalists’ actions with this in mind,
is very interesting.
Some capitalists’ speech management is talking less,
the outside world’s evaluation of them is “more technical.”
And a large portion of capitalists’ speeches are very ingenious,
they speak for a more beautiful world in their hearts.
But unfortunately,
human joys and sorrows aren’t shared.
Topics like public welfare, education that everyone acknowledges are fine,
but the topic of work itself involves social division of labor,
different people feel differently because of different things.
If capitalists straightforwardly express “I really enjoy work itself” and similar views on the topic of “996 work system,”
naturally they’ll receive indiscriminate criticism,
because at this moment their original sin is their identity.
When a person’s symbolic attributes outweigh their social attributes,
all their speech should have clear directional purposes.
This is “speech management.”
Self-Awareness
In school after exams,
some people always wail “ahhh I bombed the exam, I’m done, I’m done.”
Result: in the end their grades were excellent.
Although there’s a saying it’s “essentially because they fear being seen as incompetent”,
no matter what,
if your behavior lightly trusts others’ speech,
you can easily be misled into the pit.
Ultimately resulting in “everyone else shouts about bad grades but you actually have bad grades.”
Same as what was said in the section above,
the current information flow (including this article you’re reading now) is full of speech management.
Whether a piece of information has value to influence individual action,
needs to be identified, filtered, and have its essence extracted.
In the coming time we’ll see more speech about 996,
some will be harsh, some will feel cathartic.
But which contain “constructive suggestions,”
needs us to widen our eyes to distinguish.
When they’re talking about 996,
what I’m thinking about is the talking itself.
