A while back my phone updated to Android 6.0.
I went to Gplay as usual to look at new Apps,
and saw a Google Cardboard.

VR

VR, that is Virtual Reality, 虚拟现实.

In some sci-fi movies, we see the protagonist wear a helmet,
and enter a virtual yet lifelike world.
Or the protagonist plugs a tube into the back of their head,
and through electrical stimulation of the brain,
enters a virtual yet lifelike world.

This is VR virtual reality.

Because the concept itself carries a bit of entertainment quality,
VR has been very hot in the gaming world in recent years.
For example, the motion-sensing game concept from a few years ago
actually had a half-VR nature to it.

Google Cardboard

[Google Cardboard][wiki-cardboard] is the VR platform launched by Google.
Its magic is that in theory you only need cardboard and lenses
to assemble a VR headset yourself.

Of course this is in theory—
in practice a pair of Cardboard glasses only costs a few dozen RMB.

This is the one I bought on Taobao the other day:

After putting in the phone and opening a VR app,
or a 3D movie, you can watch directly:

VR Thoughts

  1. Cheap.
Cheap means widespread, and widespread can change lifestyles.
You can imagine future dinner tables where parents scold their kids:
“Don’t wear the headset while eating…”

  2. Change.
Every new technology in the world brings change,
from iron tools to steam to the internet.

  3. VR technology still has a lot of room for improvement.
